As the launch dates for their first OS, Sailfish are nearing; there is some shuffling going in the top management of the Finnish start-up, Jolla. The face of the company, Jussi Hurmola who has till date represented the company on every level, whether it is the interviews or press conferences, has decided to step down and concentrate on the development of new strategies for their Sailfish ecosystem. Meanwhile, Marc Dillon, the company’s former COO, will be the taking the seat of the new CEO of the company.
The man doesn’t require any introduction being the same ex-Nokia employee who co-started Jolla along with Jussi Hurmola, after leaving Nokia due to the abandonment of MeeGo project. He has worked on some major projects like Symbian, S40 and MeeGo while in Nokia.
The reason for the reshuffle is speculated to be the shift of focus on focus delivery as the news announced on Jolla’s Twitter account on 15 October says, “Jolla watch changes as we focus on product delivery. @marcdillondotfi is new CEO, @jussihurmola focuses to Sailfish strategy. Onwards sails!” However, according to some latest updates, one of the spokesperson from the company marked it as a part of their development strategy saying, ”Regular rotation is a part of our company culture that keeps us agile and our way of working well matched to the most important tasks at hand.” He also laid stress on the company’s preference to focus on product delivery. “Marc has been in charge of the engineering and product development right from the start and the move will now maximise the delivery efficiency. At the same time, it’s elementary that we also look beyond the first launch and Jussi’s new role i.e. focusing on further developing the Sailfish strategy and the whole ecosystem will be very important for Jolla.”
Let’s see how this reshuffle reflects the company’s future strategies and development which has so far been fast and steady.
