Since the launch of Jolla’s Sailfish, there were questions about whether the Sailfish OS will support the MeeGo powered Nokia N9. The developers didn’t confirmed it neither they denied saying that their OS is open and can support almost any hardware, especially the MeeGo devices as Sailfish is also Mer core based, a successor to MeeGo. Now, the news is official with the Facebook account of MeeGo announcing, “Guys, Sailfish will boot on your N9 soon. More info and tutorials will be released later on but now I can assure you that you can easily run it on your N9 when it released, fully functional, with a bit of tweaks.”
The news is like a boon for the MeeGo users who rarely get any updates due to the abandonment of the OS. And with Sailfish expanding fast, the MeeGo users will also be using the same apps which include those from the Android and Jolla’s own as well. Fingers crossed for the next updates.
UPDATE: Please bare in mind that #Sailfish_OS was developed originally on N950 devices which has the same performance as N9. So porting the OS to #N9 isn’t something impossible and hopefully will be done [By developers outside #Jolla] after the final release of the OS which will be the end of this year. So please be patient if you are willing to run Sailfish OS on your Nokia N9 device. We will keep you updated, just follow us.
