No smartphone from Jolla at MWC 2013

Since the launch of Jolla’s Sailfish OS, all eyes are set on the release of Jolla’s first Smartphone device and with the New Year already in its second month; it was firmly believed that Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013 could be the platform for the launch of the device. But the official statement says that device will be launched before the summer. So, there’s still plenty of time and that’s why Jolla officials considered it wise enough to clear any doubts regarding the expectations by the fans and media. That’s why recently they made a post on their official Twitter account regarding their involvement in the upcoming MWC event. They have made it clear that though there will not be any device launch at the event, they will be presenting the Sailfish SDK and focusing on their partnerships of the on-going projects. Also, there will not be any official booth for Jolla at the event and those who want to meet them whether fans or partners may do so by contacting them via email.

Though it may seem that Jolla is facing some similar launch problems as Nokia and we agree that MWC could be a big platform for their device launch, we still feel that everything’s fine. First, they said for the launch before summer this year and there’s plenty of time still left. Second, they must keep the momentum going in the forward direction and doing so is not possible by wisely handling their current deals which are very worthy for a good start. Jolla has already made it clear that device is a separate thing but they will mostly be concentrating on developing their Sailfish OS which they will be distributing to other mobile phone manufacturers as well.

But we want to know what’s your take on this. So, do give us your feedback.

Sad, especially as Ubuntu launches not only their phone but also their tablet OS at MWC.
I wish Jolla all success possible, but I thinkit will become hard to compete against Ubuntu with a device launching that late.

Slightly concerned, as MWC is a great place to showcase Sailfish and a top tier phone to the world. A great showing could have the world waiting for the release of their phone as opposed to a few displaced N9 owners waiting for similar experience in their next device.

I also must say that Jolla’s main market is not Europe, but Asia (China), and I assume Jolla will show it’s first device in some event in Asia.

So that is maybe the reason why we will not see Jolla device at MWC.

If there is no device to show yet… …I think soon there should be one, because the device is as well important as the os, and the success of the nokia n9 not only was the os, but also a quite good device… so I wish jolla would launch a cute device in Europe soon (I suppose there is a big interest) !!!

Ubuntu will not be launching ay phone or tablet before 2014.
Sailfish already has a chinese branded phone announced in India.
Jolla will be launching their own phone well before Ubuntu.

I think there is plenty of time to release a phone until summer too, but with Mozilla showing devices and Ubuntu already launching their Tablet-OS they are late in competition.

Ubuntumobile SDK cant even compete to what Jolla released yesterday, Ubuntu depends on Android GFX drivers WTF?!

SailfishSDK is already far more READY than ubuntumobile.

I will soonish port my apps from harmattan to salfish and I know the community has already started porting…

Sailfish with QML+Mer+QtWebkit has potential over ubuntumobile/firefox.

People should learn not be blinded by marketing hype or/and specs. Facts stands SailfishOS has more stable core librarys and not halfbacked library dependies etc…
