Home 2013 November It’s A Good Day!

It’s A Good Day!

It’s one thing to love great products, another to witness the birth of it!

Hello there Jolla users! ๐Ÿ™‚
Usually its James to do these kinds of posts, but well let him just celeberate!
Yes you are right, he is the lucky third one ๐Ÿ™‚ (He got his jolla. :'( why am I crying? Tears, stahp!)

1461204_630585840313665_1162059601_n

Well, more about James later…

What this post is truly about is the marvelous, breath-taking (and all the other awesome adjectives) hype surrounding the jolla communities.

From the lucky 450 ones to the unlucky people not living in Europe (me included) everyone took part in making this day come true, in whatever ways they did. (Blog, Post, Share, Love…..)

I still remember the time when all we had was a seriously inactive facebook page and a twitter account. (and well a LinkedIn profile and Jussi Hurmola ;))

jolla-initial-tweet

Unluckily there was no official live coverage of the event.
But twitter (#Hauskinjono)ย is full of pictures and well so is facebook.

Anyways, so word on the docks…
Jolla is also planning to let individual users to download Sailfish operating system into their Android-devices.
Oh lookie, what i found on the web. :@

Screen Shot 2013-11-28 at 1.59.10 AM

I dont see which degree is it that canonical has? :/ A 19 Million US Dollar crowd-funding goal?

And heres an unboxing video, enjoy! (Thanks Marcus)

So, what’s next for Jolla: (My Opinions)

  • Jolla for everyone who pre-ordered. (Even if they live in Neverland!)
  • Sailfish OS for Nokia N9
  • Sailfish OS for Android Phones
  • A huge collection of other halves to buy from.
  • Sailfish OS for symbian devices, lumia devices. (I know its a dream hard to come true, but its a dream shared by many) (thanks the_mgt)

<dream>(And well maybe make Marko Ahtisaari a fellow sailor,ย give me some shares)</dream>

Now all we have to is wait and watch! Heres a tip: James is upto something ๐Ÿ˜€

A message to all the readers:

52qqn

Though at the point I don’t know when will I get my jolla… (#Not in europe probems)

All I would say is,

May the winds be ever in you favor, Jolla

Sailfish for all those neglected Symbian^3/Anna/Belle devices would be nice, as they will become expensive waste as of 1. January next year, when the shop will lock down on updates. It could prolong the life of my C7 and it could be awesome on an E7…

    – Canonical supports ubuntu touch on a few nexus devices.
    – Support for symbian devices will never come (it was asked from maemo and meegoo before and it wasn’t feasible than due to encrypted/locked bootloaders, unavailable drivers and so for sure it’s not feasible now as the devices are older and obsolete and so of little interest)
    – support for the n9 is easier to implement but that device also is getting obsolete
    – support for android devices would be cool especially since comparable devices (to the jolla phone) are already being left out the upgrade path by various manufacturers.

On one of the product renders you can see the description of the calendar app, iirc, it says something like “use multiple calendar sources”. Wrt Exchange, there is an exchange app visible and mentioned in one of the videos from the finnish guy who did the unboxing video. Check his youtube channel, I forgot which video it was. Probably not the one with the map app.

They need to do something with the other halves instead of vague and empty promises like “everything is possible”. I would have bought three or four colours or even the full set box that was shown in May, but even other coloured other halves are not available let alone rich featured ones like HWKB, extra power, etc

Frustrating and exciting times….. An unlikely combination of emotions

The difference is, Symbian is dead now, nobody has interest to continue the platform. But I guess some people might be interested to get the most out of the S^3 devices they own. Especially the E7 would really rock because of the hardware keyboard.

And wrt locked/encrypted bootloaders, I can imagine some ex-symbian dev who got fired might leak something on some dark corner of the interwebz, anonymously. When somebody gets a root shell with a basic linux kernel, the driver hacking can begin. There are always people like the OpenEZX guys, tinkering with their beloved old devices just because they can.

Lots of people (and operating systems) do not need two 4ghz-quadcore cpus and a terabyte of ram for the basic phone functions. ๐Ÿ˜‰ The Iphone 5 comes with dualcore 1,3Ghz, 4s was only 1ghz and I know plenty of people happily using them. Even Iphone 4 users (single core 1GHz) are mostly not complaining for everyday usage.
Some of the S^3 devices feature FM transmitters, something that has been requested by Jolla fans. Only thing that really sucks is the “full focus” camera thing.

“Full focus”… I hope you don’t mean Jolla!? On their webside it says: “8 megapixel AF camera with LED flash”!

My post was entirely about Symbian/S^3 devices and the possibility of eventually installing sailfish on them to prolong their lifetime. Most of them are decent, only the N8 has a usable camera though.

PS: It seems that I am not able to reply properly, all of my replies are added at the bottom of the comment section ๐Ÿ™
