Alandalus was one of the greatest empires in Europe back in the 8th century when King Abdul-Rahman launched an assault against the Spanish that then. According to the historians, Alandalus was the most perfect example of human society where all the people with different religions and races lived together, loved each other and helped the human race to enrich its lost dignity at the beginning of medieval era. But it was in the 13th century when Isabella and Ferdinand’s alliance ended up in an undefeatable army that no Nasrid king could dream of.
The truth behind the fall of such classy civilization is perfectly explained by this; The Orange Growth History. This ideology says: “Any society is doomed once it becomes wealthy enough and therefore sedentary enough to plant orange trees. Maybe in the end, they were just undone by their own success.”
Not going too far off-road, the once undisputable phone maker, Nokia, in a press release confirmed the Microsoft buyout and thus the former will focus on the previously mentioned “trio-Strategy”, NSN, HERE and Advanced Technologies. On Tuesday, during the EGM, more than 99% of the shareholders voted for the acquisition. It is said the deal was a done-deal before as the pre-registered shareholder votes (78%) voted for the buyout.
Nokia is now out of the game. The former industry giant is no more in this race. Why? Read the orange growth history once again. Sure, Nokia logo will no longer exist on upfront of the phones but the company itself exists. The D&S sale has many benefits for Nokia and Finnish people. As Mr. Rajeev Suri, CEO of NSN (Nokia Solutions and Networks) stated before, Telecom infrastructure division manages to make 90% of Nokia’s revenue. The buyout gives Nokia a solid war chest against the Swedish and French rivals, Ericsson and Alcatel Lucent respectively. That being said, extra $7.2 Billion makes Nokia far richer than Ericsson and from that perspective, after weighing Alcatel Lucent’s potential benefits for NSN, Nokia decided not to start formal talks for the acquisition as they can outperform their rivals rather than spending billions for almost – nothing.
Still, hundreds of millions of people across the continents know Nokia for their phones but sadly however they lost the crown because of mismanagement, lack of vision and again, orange growth history issue.
Such a strange world is this. Some rebels left Nokia for an unclear destiny and there they are, only 168 hours separate us from the first hands-on! While Nokia is sold to a non-Finnish firm …
I’m writing this article as James is packing his clothes for the announcement next Wednesday in Helsinki. I have to admit that both of us are extremely excited for the event and I can’t describe the feeling inside me for this very long awaited moment —- Jolla to the world.
We already know almost every meaningful feature about the other half. But that’s the physicality. We can go further, shall we?
There, the other halves are mostly meant to have different colors and specifically amplified features (maybe) compared to the main skeleton. In one word, Opposite. Following Jolla’s Unlike motto, theoretically, Jolla must be (and it is) something opposite to others.
Here are the opposites.
This small firm wants to show its lights in the shadows of giants like Samsung, Apple and Sony.
This small firm, aged two winters, want express its force while working on grace.
This small firm worked so hard to be an example of perfection meanwhile surprising the world with intuition.
This small firm, just like every startup has hopes for success but don’t forget, for a successful vision, you need to have certainty to your faith.
This small firm, as they stated before, opted to go with people they care about … So how they can satisfy our idealism whereas this industry requires realism? Mark November 27th.
This small firm showed us the chaos when they left Nokia and now they tend to calm to leverage their strategy.
When opposites fit together so well? Perhaps they were meant to be together, all along — The Other Half.
It’s not just the hardware and ecosystem of Jolla that amaze me, the philosophy and the ambitious way of thinking of Jolla that fascinate me which no other ideology had done to me like this before.
Best wishes for November 27th.
