Poll: What is Gonna be on Jolla’s Table on Wednesday?

As we all know, Jolla is about to unveil a certain thing at Slush. It’s pretty obvious as their timer ends exactly when Marc Dillon has his presentation scheduled on Wednesday, November 19th at 10:35 at Silver Stage according to Slush’s website.

The countdown to something big begins now. Sign up at http://t.co/A5ZkqgLuTp #jolla #unlike pic.twitter.com/QU5rMl4zjj

— Jolla (@JollaHQ) November 14, 2014

But speculations after speculations, we don’t have a final clue of what this “thing” could be.

Some are saying that it might be a functional The Other Half. Some other are saying that it’ll be just a normal, leather, double colored otherhalf.
The conversation has even escalated to a possibility of a Jolla Watch as YvesPE made up a rather nice mock up of the latest Jolla teaser:

We are still speculating, connected smart watch 😉 #Jolla #SailfishOS # Slush14 pic.twitter.com/vl8LdRGoJi

— YP (@YvesPE) November 15, 2014

And ReviewJolla making something out of a Tablet:

Just speculating with a random 9 inch tablet, don't believe it 😉 http://t.co/nS71M1qOaw #Jolla #SailfishOS #slush14 pic.twitter.com/QdZzPSnuqI

— Review Jolla (@reviewjolla) November 14, 2014

But aside from all of these, no one actually really knows what’s going on.

There are thousands of people who have claimed that it might as well be a phone. Jolla 2.0 in fact. But since Jolla is keeping it quiet and not saying anything until the countdown timer comes to an end, I want to ask you guys about what do you think it might be?

What is the "thing" that Jolla is teasing?

  • Jolla 2 (Phone) (51%, 369 Votes)
  • Tablet Powered by Sailfish OS (32%, 227 Votes)
  • None of the above (13%, 90 Votes)
  • The Other Half (12%, 86 Votes)
  • SmartWatch Powered by Sailfish OS (3%, 25 Votes)

Total Voters: 718

Feel free to comment if you think the teased image is pointing something else out to us?

Cheers!

Considering that they just released the current phone in more countries i think they are not releasing a new phone. It’s far more likely that they made some sort of other device, like a tablet.

    Hey sailors!! 😉
I was looking at the images…doing some thinking about what it could be…. I think it cannot be a phone considering the design shown in the image is way different… and I think more than the image, the word BIG is to be noted…as David has already mentioned..this might be another device…a tablet…something bigger than the Jolla phone…or a bigger phone..a phablet sorta thing…but whatever it is..i’m super excited!!! 🙂

I have no idea what the announcement may be but leaving my usual sarcasm about different coloured back covers (aka. The Other Half) to one side, I think it could be a new phone, the Jolla 2. Jolla have afterall hinted that they were working on one.

I also like the idea that it could be some kind of collaboration with Nokia.

I would like it to be a tablet. But who knows? In the end it is only an OH. One hint for some type of electronic device is that the next sfos update speaks something about scalable UI elements, SVG icons, etc. So at least it will have a higher resolution display 🙂

Quite possible it’s an announcement of #Jolla returning home to #Nokia (now that the M$/Elop madness is out). Natural pogression from Symbuan, Maeno, MeeGo,,Meltemi, Mer, Nemo, #SailfishOS to something BIG like Jolla + Nokia as Jokia (= rivers) or Nolla (= zero). Well, maybe not, in fact, but just an announcement for #SailfishOS on some new hw (either ported fully to some droid device, or new Jolla device). Certainly not just a TOH.. That corner btw. is very familiar to all of us #N9 owners.. 🙂

I think Jolla is going to fillfull all excpectations of their follower by Introducing todays high end specification having great horsepower and big screen as they mention the “Big” word, also old “Jolla” goddies like nfc, other half but with slimmer profile,AMOLED screen, low power consumption on screen notification, better camera and so on to come over to compete with todays standerds to show the actual power of “Sailfish OS”. Finger crossed..

Could it be a Sailfish phone from another manufacturer? The word ‘BIG’ probably means bigger phone, the tablet seems like a stupid move at this point. And hopefully it isn’t just a new back cover of any sort, or Jolla has yet again made a huge mistake by creating too much hype over nothing.

Sailfish OS for WP, codenamed Akion? As in Nokia spelt backward? Or possibly Omena for IDevices?

Personally I think more for a tablet … but not in chocolate 😉
should not refer to scale the phone, it must be more imposing.
we must wait for the answer.

No way that they are going to admit that the project is a total failure… Far from basic functionality and long way to a stable system. With a current pace of development it is falling further and further behind of basic needs of an average user. Sorry being negative and hurt the feelings of the fans, but that is my personal experience.

What kind of basic features are you referring to?
As for stability, it has only been getting better and better over time! I personally don’t have any stability issue at the moment. Even with the opt-in update.

        @Sepehr James Noori

        Here are few:

        1. Networking. When it sits on the table all day long, it works fine, no questions. But when the network conditions change: go out of the wifi coverage to mobile data only, and back, inbetween there are coverage gaps (elevators, etc), the networking becomes a disaster: it pops up with the question to choose between Wifi or data (why?), or with the prompt to enter Wifi password (again- why for home network?), or sometimes simply fails to switch back to Wifi after coming home. In extreme cases networking just stops and displays “Restart your device message” (got it at least 3 times last 2 months).
        2. Browser. If you tap “tabs” icon right when the browser starts up, it crashes the browser. Always. You need to wait when it starts to load the pages before you can touch it.
        3. Email. HTML emails are rendered in max 60..70% cases. The rest are just blank screen. I have to use “Reply” to see original text in text more below reply.
        4. I see it as major basic feature to be able to copy a piece of text (like a phone number) from webpage or email. Or I just haven’t found a way how to do it?
        5. SMS. Many times same message is received twice. Usually happens with 1 minute interval. Just an annoyance.
        6. Not sure if a memory leak or something, but with the time device becomes more and more slow, until to the point where you can barely get to answer incoming call.
        7. Numerous design flaws: too dim screen for daytime use, unfurtunate selection of color schemes (white/green letters on black background for most apps), buttons at the end of call , etc.

These are just few which came in my mind immediately. Am I only one with such problems? BTW, I haven’t seen any update since couple months (?), it always tells me that “it was checked today and its up to date”.

Came to conclusion that it is just not yet ready for serious use. Or that I am not the intended target market maybe? Do not spend enough time checking system logs and adjusting kernel settings? Maybe. But then why announce the phone in WMC where the entrance ticket alone costs twice as the phone price? Do it on some hackathon or something where the target audience gather? Do not mislead the people.

P.S. I can rule out Wifi and mobile network faults because since I bought Jolla, I lived 3 months in one country and next 3 months in other country. Hence various Wifi environments in house, office, and also different mobile networks. Described networking issues persist in all environments. Places with older Wifi routers experience higher number of issues though.

          1. I used to have these issues but honestly I don’t have them anymore after update 9.
          2. That one is also fixed (for me) in update 9
          3. I don’t use Email client that much. I manage my emails on my laptop as I’m most likely either at work, behind my laptop or home, the same thing! But again, this is my case.
          4. That is a serious matter. Copy/Paste from emails should be possible. Although again it’s okay for me ATM.
          5. Never, ever had that issue with SMS!
          6. Sure, it can get slow after a long while (say, a week and a half with no reboot) but not to the point of letting everything down. I usually give it a reboot before it gets slow. Won’t hurt!
          7. Not a good screen for daylight use, I agree. Colors should be fixed too.

So yeah, some of them are indeed true but not all.
For the networking issue: if it’s horrible, why don’t you contact care?

Thanks for the reply. So at least for most except #5 (SMS) you don’t deny that issue exist or existed at some point before update to 9 (Although not sure what you mean by update 9. I just checked and mine says “1.0.8.21 Up to date, Last checked: Just now”. Am I excluded from future updates ??)

That makes me think that I am not alone with these problems, and if I continue the list, I might get confirmation of that the majority of others are valid too.

Nowadays, a phone is rather a multifunctional device and one cannot assume that his customers will not use some of the features (like email for example) and therefore make a rudimentary application just to tell “hey, we have it”. The applications we expect are numerous, and each of them is complex animal which takes a heck of the people x years to design, code, test and debug until its ready for prime time.

A pre-orde campaign for the new Jolla phone I suggest. Jolla is giving discounts on their current model. This might be a hint that they are clearing their shelves.

I wonder whether the picture shows the phone part without the Other Half or they are going to drop the TOH concept.

    Hej,

If you go to Jolla.com and check the actual Jolla’s TOH animations, there the render does not show the actuall thickness (parts in the TOH) when TOH is removed. Just saying…

It could be a tablet, or else a laptop. I don’t think there will be a return to Nokia or coöperation with Nokia, because Nokia does not exist anymore. Microsoft will call its devices now WP, Windows Phones. On the other hand: if Microsoft expels Nokia….

Erratum: Nokia as a company still exists, but they don’t make a device. Microsoft calls its devices now ‘Lumia’. Sorry for the Nokia lovers. I think Jolla should get the honour .

@Kea You are wrong, the old Nokia exists with NSN, Here-maps and Advavanced tech unit, and huge tech. patent portfolia, and they defibitely can produce mobile devices even now and in the future, also the name “Nokia” is only licensed to M$ as part of the Nokia D/S buyout (thus Nokia phones by the true Nokia are not possible until 2016), but they can collaborate with other device and OS manufacturers (like Jolla and SailfishOS ) and even license “Nokia” name for that use. Moreover, they just annoinced the rekease of Nokia N1 device, which has nothing to do with M$ but might hsve something to do with Jolla. You clearly know nothing about mobile biz and tech so stop spreading your false notions as facts in this forum.

.. besdes M$ does not call their phones Nokia or Nokia Lumia nor WP or Limia, but just Microsoft Lumia. They dont want to be associated with Nokia anymore. Get your facts straight before posting to public forums, please.

Jukka, this is exactly what I meant: MS has expelled the name Nokia and MS calls its phones ‘MS Lumia ‘ and other people just call it: ‘Windows phone.’ What’s in a name…. I certainly will not go into a fight about who has the most knowledge about this. We, me and you , do not know what is behind the curtains. That makes it so exciting! What can be known is on the internet: about changing of chiefs and about licenses and about Nokia governing its Here maps and navigation, about shares, about billions, etc. But nothing about coöperation with Jolla. We will see. Please , stop fighting.

@kea No-one is fighting, I just tried to correct your false statements about Nokia and M$ 😉 I agree, that it is strange that Nokia and Jolla are not, as of yet, collaborating in mobile/device biz, cause they have a common history (the Nokia before M$) and now that M$ is out of Nokia for good, nothing should be in the way preventing Nokia to co-operate with any 3rd-party corps and license their brand for this use. Nice to see that both released a tablet, but why didn’t do it in collaboration, so that we’d get #SailfishOS based device with Nokia branding and support. Maybe later.. ‘;)
