UPDATE: Goal of €55,000 reached within less than 7 hours!
Here we go! After last week’s announcement, TOHKBD officially made it on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.com. Now it is up to Jolla fans and users to become a ‘backer’ and help achieve the funding goal of €55’000 which the TOH-keyboard creators need to complete their project.
Supporting a project on Kickstarter.com doesn’t guarantee that you will actually get the product (and don’t worry, you won’t lose any money) – but you will be part of a community that helps release it. If successful, the project-creators can take the next steps and you will have the possibility to be among the first ones to own that beautiful piece of hardware.
We -Dirk, Kimmo and Andrew- have developed a gadget that a lot of Jolla users have been waiting for since day one: a hardware keyboard that attaches to the smartphone via its unique “The Other Half” interface. It’s 100% plug-and-play, so you won’t have to tinker with drivers. Just snap it on your Jolla and the keyboard will set everything up for you and you are good to go!
There are various options to pledge the TOHKBD-project, some allowing only a limited amount of backers. Cheapest one starts at €20 where you will get plans/data to create and build your own keyboard – a limited reward for the brave “SUPERMEGA Early Bird” funders is the €100 option which will already get you a fully assembled TOH keyboard. If you are ready to pledge more, you will be able to chose a different TOH colour, personal thank you note and signatures on casing, as well as a developer model.
So don’t hesitate and visit the project page:
The keyboard will be detachable from the custom TOH (thanks to magnets) and is 3D printed with PLA plastic. Both parts make the phone 16.5mm thick (12mm without keyboard part) which is comparable to other QWERTY phones and slightly thinner than the Nokia N900. The project team attached importance to deliver a high-quality keyboard including navigation buttons and necessary symbols suited for power users.
Currently the design is complete, hardware is selected and necessary software already works:
On a short term developer-prototypes will be shipped to the developers within the TOHKBD team and to JollaHQ. These will be completely soldered and assembled by hand.
The project will be continued if at least €55,000 is pledged by
