Will give grants to developers who will move their applications from Android and iOS monopoly in independent Tizen and Sailfish
That is at least what Google translate tells me when I throw the tweet at it! Yet another tweet states:
And in case you’re wondering what Google translate has to say about this one:
Smartphones and operating systems #Tizen #SailfishOS will soon be sold en masse in Russia
Those two tweets from a “Minister of Communications and Mass Media” means a lot more than just two tweets and they represent decisions that are made behind the scenes without anyone knowing and they are definitely been thought through.
With that said, we shall soon see a few things:
- More Sailfish OS (And Tizen) applications
- More Jolla phones being sold especially in Russia
- More Tizen phones from Samsung being sold in Russia
Russia is indeed a massive market and they really seem to take a leap from the iOS/Android monopoly and want to be more #Unlike by moving to the more “independent” operating systems like Sailfish OS.
Looks like Mr. Nikiforov is all about openness as he insisted iOS to become open source so that experts in Russia could look for “back doors” and “presence of hidden features”. And as you guessed, it did not happen. Surprise.
Don’t yo just love it when Sailfish OS sees a welcome sign?
