You Can Now Test “Whatsup”, The WhatsApp Client for Sailfish OS

Disclaimer: Don’t complain about the bugs yet!

That’s an statement said by the developer of Whatsup, Matias Cepi Perez who is warning you that the application contains bugs. We don’t have a full list yet but the bugs are indeed there, yet the application is fully functional according to my earlier on testings. It uses the Nokia S40 protocol and that, according to Cepi, makes it almost impossible to track down.

Registration works flawlessly and every key feature works as it should.

It only needs more patience for better and more features to reach this client of WhatsApp.

Can you tell me what the difference is between this and Mitäkuuluu (apart from Mitäkuuluu getting you a ban) and why use it instead of the android version?

As far as I know Coderus works active on support encryption and an better way to hide from Whatsapps detection. Don’t know how and if it does this.

      Advantages of Whatsup
      – fast, smooth
      – notifcation works all the time
      – native cool looking
      – nearly full functions
      – and the last the least would be, it is still in developing, so the possibililty of improvement is infinite

All i can say is, it is a native app and has the design aspects of sailfish os and way better than the android version. hope this app saves my battery.

Manjo, have you used it? It doesn’t sound as though you have, you ‘hope’ it saves battery? It’s obvious it’s a sailfish app’ but you’re talking as though you’ve been using it describing it as ‘way better’ when they’re saying it’s not finished yet and might have bugs? So which one is it?

Most common bug is (even when I don’t have it) app crashes sometimes when you open send picture panel. Sending location and vcards are not implemented yet. Also notifications sound stop working sometimes. There’s a lot to do, but imo it’s pretty stable for every day use.

      Hi,
I downloaded your Whatsup app and love it.
I have one question though, I want to use it with a different SIM than I first installed it with, but it still claims to use the original number.

Is there any way I can make it reference a different SIM in the phone?

Can Whatsup coexist with official WhatsApp client (installed via Aptoide)? I mean be installed – not runnig both of them at same time.

It’s a native application, with Sailfish design, PullyMenu and all the things we like so much. Better than the Android version: it get’s all my contacts right and the notifications works as you would expect it. On the other side there are some features missing and it’s look and feel is not 100% polished, also it seems to take some battery.

But the working notigications (including LED) makes it much better than the Android version.

Fu**ing awesome! Works way better than the oficial droid app (meaning led lights for notifications, propper notification integration…). Cepi Perez rocks! Many thanks!

I love using it because of the working back gesture and the app background. The only thing made me to return to Android version was notification blinking light which kept blinking even after opening the app. I should have seen all my unread messages to stop it blinking.

Well I’ve downloaded and installed, seems pretty good so far but the method to attach images is clunky and hard work, very counter intuitive if you ask me, this should have been a simple ‘paperclip’ method like whatsapp and email, it’s hard work as it stands. . . . . . : |

App is great, looks good and very smooth. Not all of my Whatsapp contacts are present in the address book, but I can still message them back when they message me.

Got it installed and working. Now the only problem is: it uses up a lot of energy! Is there any solution for this problem? Is the builder of the app aware of this? If so, I am content :).
